Spa & Hot Tub Tips

First and foremost always balance your water before you add EcoOne™ monthly. You will only have to do this on a fresh or initial fill, then EcoOne™ will lock that balance in for 3-4 months.

If you do not use a pre filter and your water is above 200 ppm lower your pH to 6.8 or 7.0 using a pH down product (a liquid or dry powder pH reducer works equally well.)

If your water is really soft (some lake water etc) you may have to increase your pH or add calcium to increase hardness. Look to our test strips to help you out . We have 4 way strips that can tell you all you need to know, whether it be chlorine or bromine based tub.  If your water is excessively hard, we suggest using the EcoOne™ Pre Filter to reduce your water hardness to approx 200 ppm.

The enzymes in EcoOne™ are accelerated by "air" being drawn into the water. (keep air jets open during use of spa, closed when not in use, this will also safe on electrical costs of runnning your tub).  You can enhance the rate at which EcoOne™ performs by increasing the amount of time your spa filters per day. If you notice that your spa is constantly turning cloudy and/or has a slight odour, increase your filtration cycle. (12 hours/day or F6 is preferred)Turn your filters UP, so you can turn your sanitizer demand DOWN LOW!

pH: Do not fight with your pH. It is common to have pH fluctuations after adding chemicals and while EcoOne™ is decontaminating your spa. Let your jets run and give it some time. 9 times out of 10, your pH will come back into the 7.2-8.2 range on its own. (If it does drop out or increase just adjust it and it will all come back naturally).

Our EcoOne™ Pre-Filter Hose removes or reduces these contaminants for up to 40,000 gallons.

If you have excessively hard water (Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and surrounding areas)  and you ride your pH high, you may get calcium dropout or a sandpaper feel to the surface of your tub.  Realize that it is in your pipes as well, don't panic it is easy to solve!

1)  Drain spa and spray a liquid pH reduction product or a mild solution of muriatic acid on the surface and it will disappear.  Vinegar or acedic acid is not strong enough.  The calcium will magically disappear on its own.  Then refill your spa adjust pH to 6.8 - 7.0 and keep it there by adusting once a week.  If the pH is HIGH (pink colour on test strip) bring it down if it is LOW (yellow colour on test strip) bring it up, 7.0 (orange colour on test strip) is what you want.

2)  Leave water in spa lower pH to 6.8 with a pH reduction product.  Enter your spa and with the tub on low speed (so you can see) scrub the surface with a green and yellow scotchbrite pad (no soap please) and it will slowly come off, dispersing into the water and filter through your filters.

3)  Dramatically lower the pH in your tub to 6.0 and it will magically disappear, slowly increase your pH back to 7.0.  The surface will clean up and so will the interior pipes and heater core.
